Our Mission

The mission of Ophelia's Voice is to create a peer-facilitated space to support the leadership development of young women who are empowered to take the lead in their community.

Our Philosophy

Our organizational philosophy and values are as follows:

• Girls are capable of changing the world. We embrace their strengths and assets as individuals to achieve this.
• Girls need safe and secure spaces to express themselves, build leadership skills, and find allies with peers.
• Girls need access to accurate information about their sexuality, health, identity, self esteem, and the spheres of influence in their daily lives so they can make positive choices.
• Girls need critical thinking skills and self-advocacy skills to interpret their world and stand up for their beliefs.
• Leadership and empowerment have to be inspired by peers in a space that is collaborative and non-hierarchical.
• Non-profit organizations should promote open information exchange, partnerships, and the sharing of best practices to achieve common goals.
• Programs for girls must be safe, inclusive, accessible, and supportive. Social justice and inclusion are at the core of our work.

Our Vision

The vision of Ophelia's Voice is to create a society where adolescent girls have open access to information and a peer support network. Young women are entitled to information about their sexuality, their identity, and the spheres of influence that affect their daily lives. We also strive to create an environment conducive to leadership development, empowerment, and self esteem building. We envision adolescent girls being critical of the media and their other sources of influence, demonstrating leadership qualities, and confident in the choices that they make whatever they may be.
