Joanne Cave

Founder, Youth Director

Joanne Cave is currently a 16-year-old high school student in Sherwood Park, Alberta. She began her work with Ophelia's Voice at the age of 12 after reading Reviving Ophelia: Saving The Selves of Adolescent Girls (Mary Pipher). She sought out two graduate student mentors from the University of Alberta Department of Psychology to act as her adult mentors and to assist in organizing her program and obtaining non-profit status. Ophelia's Voice became a non-profit organization in May 2005 and the pilot project commenced in September 2006. Within her organization Joanne has put together the 250-page "Ophelia's Voice Resource and Programming Guide" as a framework for the project, sought out and wrote countless grant applications, met with other community organizations to discuss partnership opportunities, spoke with local media, recruited participants for the pilot project, and coordinated and delivered all the programming. Joanne's interests also extend into youth leadership and engagement, for which she is available for speaking engagements. Outside of Ophelia's Voice, Joanne's interests include yoga and reading.
